LGBTQ Sensitive Care for the Treatment of Addictions
This training will examine the ways that LGBTQ clients may be at risk for certain psychological struggles. Members will look at issues of intersectionality and how a client’s presentation is impacted by sexual orientation, gender identity, race, SES, health factors etc. Providing LGBTQ sensitive care is complicated and the barriers that are often felt by clients will be discussed. In addition to our own sensitivity we need to examine our agencies’ competence. Clinicians also need to examine their own countertransference in dealing with clients. The presentation will involve several videos and vignettes of LGBTQ clients and their experiences.
