Mary Olsen, President, EAPA NYC Chapter

Ellyn Kravette, Vice President, EAPA NYC Chapter

Greetings All,

Here's what went on in the first quarter:

We’ve had very well attended monthly trainings in 2019 and we’re actively seeking additional and larger meeting spaces; if you know of one, or if your workplace has one to offer, please contact us (and thanks)!

We extend our grateful thanks to Caron New York, Public Employee Federation and DC37. These wonderful organizations served as our first quarter meeting hosts, generously sharing their meeting space. We are also appreciative of the gracious luncheon sponsors: Lakeview Health, Jacksonville, FL, Carlton Tanis, Representing Excel Treatment Center, The Milestone House and Enlightened Solutions and New Pathway Counseling Service. The provision of refreshments at our meetings is a very significant contribution.

Sincere thanks to the talented presenters who are the energetic core of the growing participation we have enjoyed at our meetings this year. In January, Divorce Mediators Kenneth Neumann, MHC, and Monica Roquitte, LCSW, CDFA, MBA presented on Divorce for EAP Clinicians. In February, David Bergstein, LMHC presented on DBT Skills and in March, Ronnye Halpern, LCSW, CEAP and Abigail Streubel, LCSW presented on Referrals to 12 Step and SMARTRecovery meetings. All of these presentations were relevant, presented by experts and eligible for CE Credits for Social Workers and LMHCs, PDH and CASAC credits. Your evaluation comments are noted! We understand that the continued effort to offer quality programming is to your liking, and we will keep that going.

Looking ahead to April and May, we have compelling presentations planned. On April 23, we will hear from Edwin Salsitz, MD on Addiction from the Inside Out and on May 21 from Dr. Catherine Bindorf on Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders.

June 25 is the date for the EAPA NYC Annual Fundraiser and back by popular demand is the boat cruise. Please mark your calendars! Details about registration are forthcoming. Your support of this event enables us to keep our programming going all year; we depend on you and look forward to seeing you there. A grateful shout out to Gary Bisogna and Pia Marinangeli for their invaluable efforts researching and negotiating advantageous terms with the cruise operator; Gary and Pia’s sustained commitment to EAPA NYC is a benchmark for what keeps this organization vibrant: grass roots support for collective benefit. Hear Hear!

As always, volunteer efforts power all our chapter activities. We are thrilled to welcome Sherry Natkow, Monica Roquitte, and Gail Purvis to our Education and Training Committee. Their recent volunteer efforts will and are already providing the reinforcements we need to keep all the chapter activities going! Many thanks are also due to intrepid E & T powerhouse Renee Roberts, who secured a wonderful speaker for our October meeting. Renee Roberts continues to be a quiet force, steadily helping to move our chapter forward; it was Renee who singlehandedly obtained our chapter’s approval to become a NY State approved provider of CE credits for LMHCs. Scott Apgar is moving ahead with fortitude on the Chapter Directory and Ellyn Kravette and Ronnye Halpern will represent our chapter at the June 14 NASW Social Work in the City conference being held at the New York Academy of Medicine. Very special thanks to Cheryl Anne Clarke for contributing so graciously by facilitating our meeting registration process and doing so singlehandedly in February and March. Cheryl Anne is remarkable in her ability to remain cool and collected while shouldering a demanding and integral responsibility for our chapter.

We could not keep our programming going without the meaningful support of our

Presenters, Volunteers, Venue Hosts and Lunch Sponsors! THANK YOU TO ALL!

Please consider volunteering in whatever way you can to support our chapter. We need you too!

Till next month,

Mary and Ellyn
